21 more test +ve for Covid-19 in Ludhiana

3 from district & 18 are jawans of Delhi-based RPF battalion

As many as 21 persons have tested positive for Covid-19. Their samples were sent from district today.

From the 21 cases reported today one is fresh case from Lalton Kalan village, 18 are from the Delhi-based Railway Protection Force (RPF) battalion and two are contacts from the tyre firm.

Now, total of infected persons from the tyre firm chain stands at 13 while 34 have been infected in the Delhi-based RPF battalion chain. One patient from Ambedkar Nagar is an employee of tyre firm, another from Bhai Himmat Singh Nagar is wife of an already positive employee of the same company and 18 are from the chain of RPF battalion.

The Civil Surgeon, Dr Rajesh Bagga, said, “A 71-year-old male from Lalton Kalan village is a fresh case while 18 are jawans from Delhi- based RPF battalion. Earlier, 16 RPF jawans had tested positive. There are 79 jawans in the battalion out of which now 34 are positive, who have been isolated. Rest of the jawans are in quarantine.”

“The battalion has come from Delhi for their duty in Ludhiana for the smooth flow of trains as migrants in huge number are being sent home,” Bagga said.

“A 37-year-old male of Ambedkar Nagar, who is an employee at the tyre firm, has tested positive after his sample was taken at the OPD of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital. A 50-year-old woman from Bhai Himmat Singh Nagar, wife of an already positive employee of the tyre company, has also tested positive for Covid,” Bagga added.

“Besides, two Hazur Sahib returnees, whose test was repeated have tested positive while all the four Kota students have tested negative in their repeat report. The repeat sample of two labourers was also sent and both have tested negative for Covid,” Bagga said.

Yesterday night, 14 people were brought back to Ludhiana from Dubai. They are now staying at different hotels. As many as 146 people, who came back from Delhi, were asked to go into self-quarantine after screening by the Health Department.

Shops to open from 7 am to 6 pm

Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal said the Punjab Government had now increased the timing of exempted shops from 7 am to 6 pm for counter sale. This relaxation would be applicable for only those shops that were allowed to open by the district administration as per the earlier orders, he added.
