Nine more persons tested positive for Covid-19 in Ludhiana district today. They include a 26-year-old pregnant woman from Kuldeep Nagar, Rahon Road; a 12-year-old boy and his 26-year-old mother, both family members of SAS Nagar resident admitted at Government Rajindra Hospital, Patiala.

Besides, a 40-year-old woman from Prem Nagar, who had travelled to Rajasthan, has also tested positive.

House-to-house surveillance at Mohalla

Chowni Mohalla has been declared a containment zone. Fifteen cases have been reported from this area to date. The chain of infection started when a 53-year-old man lost his life to Covid at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital. On Friday, 100 samples were collected from the area. “House-to-house surveillance and contact tracing will be done for 14 days. If not more than one case is reported in a week, then the containment zone will be opened. But if more than one case is reported, then it will be sealed for another one week,” said Dr Bagga.

Three residents of Ishar Nagar on Gill Road, who are contacts of a Covid patient admitted to the DMCH, have also contracted the virus. Two more residents of Prem Nagar have tested positive. Today, 237 persons were asked to home-quarantine themselves.

Heavy penalties on lockdown violators

Civil Surgeon Rajesh Kumar Bagga, said any person found not wearing mask would be fined Rs500. Bus owners, car owners or auto-rickshaw/two-wheeler owners not ensuring social distancing would be fined Rs3,000, Rs 2,000 and Rs 500 respectively. Any person breaking home-quarantine would be fined Rs 2,000 and any one spitting in a public place would be fined Rs 500.
