Four arrested with 700 gm of heroin in two cases

LUDHIANA: The special task force (STF) of Ludhiana and Ferozepur Range today claimed to have arrested four persons and recovered around 700-gram heroin in two cases.

The special task force (STF) of Ludhiana and Ferozepur Range today claimed to have arrested four persons and recovered around 700-gram heroin in two cases.

The Ludhiana STF in-charge, Inspector Harbans Singh, said they recovered 500-gram heroin from two persons who were arrested on Jalandhar Bypass. They have been identified as Shamsher Singh, alias Shera (42), of Raipur village in Amritsar and Prabhjeet Singh, alias Babbu (28), of Kotli Korotana village in Amritsar.

Following a tip-off, a police party, led by ASI Gurcharan Singh, was present on Jalandhar Bypass when the accused arrive there in a bus. They were to hand over the drug to their clients in Ludhiana city.

During interrogation, Shera said he had been addicted to heroin for the past eight years. His family had disowned him.

Prabhjeet is a truck driver and his brother came out of Amritsar Jail after getting bail in a drug case eight months ago. The police said both had procured the drug from a person at Patti in Tarn Taran district.

A case under the NDPS Act was registered against both accused and they were produced before the court. They were sent to police remand.

In another case, the STF arrested two brothers and recovered 205 gram of heroin from them. They have been identified as Amit Kumar, alias Pandit (35), and Amardeep, alias Vicky (29), both residents of New Kuldeep Nagar, Ludhiana.

Harbans Singh said they were arrested near Shiv Mandir in the New Kuldeep Nagar area. The STF recovered 205 gram of heroin from their scooter. A case has been registered against them at the Basti Jodhewal police station.

“During interrogation, they told the police that they were real brothers and had been involved in drug peddling for the past two years. Amit had earlier worked as salesman at liquor vends. Amardeep is an embroidery worker and was preparing for his BA (final year) exams as private candidate. They would keep vehicles of their customers and release them after getting full payment. Both have been sent to police remand by the court,” he said.
