Ludhiana, Ferozepur, Muktsar advance into semifinals

LUDHIANA: Hosts Ludhiana besides Ferozepur, Muktsar and Sangrur registered victories in the quarter-finals to complete the semi-final line up in kho-kho in girls’ U-19 section during the 64th Punjab State Inter-District Schools Games being held at Shaheed-e-Azam Sukhdev Government Senior Secondary School, Bharat Nagar Chowk, here on Tuesday.

Hosts Ludhiana besides Ferozepur, Muktsar and Sangrur registered victories in the quarter-finals to complete the semi-final line up in kho-kho in girls’ U-19 section during the 64th Punjab State Inter-District Schools Games being held at Shaheed-e-Azam Sukhdev Government Senior Secondary School, Bharat Nagar Chowk, here on Tuesday.

Ludhiana faced a little challenge from Mansa, whom they defeated 9-1, while Muktsar beat Jalandhar 5-1 to secure berths in the last-four stage.

However, Ferozepur warded off a stiff resistance from Patiala before wrapping up the issue 7-6, whereas Sangrur survived some anxious moments against Amritsar before coming out victorious (6-3) to join Ludhiana and Mukstar in the semi-finals.

Earlier, in the league matches, Barnala overpowered Mohali 4-3; Muktsar outplayed Nawanshahr 7-3; Patiala drubbed Fazilka 9-2; Ludhiana thrashed Faridkot 21-1; Sangrur overwhelmed Mansa 11-3; Bathinda outperformed Kapurthala 9-2; Tarn Taran pipped Fatehgarh Sahib 2-0 to enter the knock-out stage.

Rupinder Singh Ravi, state organiser, Punjab Education Department, was the chief guest. Bikram Bhanot, Assistant Education Officer (Sports) along with Ajit Pal Singh, Principal Radha Nanda, Kamaljit Kaur, Anil Sharma, Kesar Singh, Bhupinder Singh, Deepak Kumar, Malwinder Singh Sekhon, Kulwant Singh, Harminder Kaur, Inderjeet Kaur, Parminder Kaur and Arvinder Kaur were present there to assist the organising committee to conduct the matches.
