LUDHIANA: Hosts Ludhiana overpowered Amritsar to emerge champions in the 64th Punjab State Inter-District Schools Handball Championship for Boys U-19 that concluded at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Punjab Agricultural University, here on Monday.

Ludhiana, November 19

Hosts Ludhiana overpowered Amritsar to emerge champions in the 64th Punjab State Inter-District Schools Handball Championship for Boys U-19 that concluded at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Punjab Agricultural University, here on Monday.

In the final, Ludhiana defeated Amritsar 35-28 to lift the winners’ trophy. Earlier, in the semi-final, both finalists survived many anxious moments before securing berths in the title clash. Ludhiana had to toil hard against Jalandhar, who they edged out in a nail biting finish 21-20, whereas Amritsar, after some hiccups, managed to outperform Sangrur 25-21. In the match to decide the third position, Jalandhar beat Sangrur 26-21 to finish at the victory podium.

Bikramjit Bhanot, Assistant Education Officer, Ludhiana (sports), was the chief guest at the prize distribution function. He congratulated the position holders and thanked the Education Department staff in conducting the championship successfully.

Santokh Singh Gill, Principal Gurjant Singh, Ajit Pal Singh, Jagroop Singh, Rachhpal Singh, Guriqbal Singh, Makhan Singh Sahnewal, Kesar Singh Dhanansu, Sarabjit Kaur, Kamlesh Rani, Baljit Kaur, Harminder Kaur, Sukhwinder Singh and Jaspreet Singh were among others present during the prize distribution function.
