Woman, son arrested in car theft case

LUDHIANA: Three months after the car — Tata Zest — of a retired railway employee was stolen from Haibowal Kalan, the police have arrested a woman friend of the complainant in this regard.

Three months after the car — Tata Zest — of a retired railway employee was stolen from Haibowal Kalan, the police have arrested a woman friend of the complainant in this regard.

The woman’s son and a relative have also been arrested and the stolen car has been found. The accused have been identified as Pooja (40), her son Karanvir, and her brother-in-law Kanwaljit Singh.

Haibowal police station SHO Paramdeep Singh said the car theft case was solved with after going through the call details of the accused.

Complainant Umesh Narain (60) had told the police that on September 14, he had called his friend Pooja and his son at his home for tea. “When I went to make the tea, Pooja might have stolen keys of my car lying on the refrigerator. Initially, I did not suspect the role of the woman, but later, her role came to the fore,” said the complainant

The accused had hid the car at some place in Dugri from where the police recovered it.

The SHO said on September 14, after stealing the keys, the accused had come to take away the car in the wee hours of September 15, but when car owner woke up and the accused fled. Later, the car owner had taken the car to his son’s house in Haibowal at 3 am for precautionary purpose. However, when the owner woke up in the morning, car was found stolen.

The SHO said the woman was about to sell the car.
