FedEx Freight’s Scott Osborne Back to Defend Mississippi Title

The Mississippi Trucking Association is gearing up to host its Truck Driving Championship on April 26-27 in Gulfport. Reigning Grand Champion Scott Osborne of FedEx Freight will be back to defend his title. Osborne competed in the Tank Truck division in 2018 but is signed up to compete in the Flatbed category this year. More than 124 drivers are registered for the event, which also will have the support of 250 volunteers.

Who: Winners from nine categories at the state level have advanced to the national competition, where a Grand Champion will be crowned

What: Contestants are judged on a written examination and their driving skills



When: Aug. 14-17

Where: Pittsburgh

The state championship will highlight the skills and abilities of drivers over three categories; pre-trip inspection, written exam and skills/driving obstacle.

“It is the biggest safety-related event showcasing the best and safest drivers in the state,” said Steve Boudreaux, MTA’s director of safety and membership development.

According to Boudreaux, fans should be treated to a good showing by the 2019 MTA Driver of the Year, Rickey Sharp of Walmart Supply Chain. Sharp will compete in the 5-Axle division.

The top finisher in each category will advance to the National Truck Driving Championships in Pittsburgh on Aug 14-17.
