Moundville names police chief

A longtime Tuscaloosa police officer has been named police chief of Moundville.

Toby Banks, a Moundville resident, will officially begin work on Jan. 2, according to The Moundville Times.

Mayor Tony Lester recommended Banks with assistance from a committee of three professional law enforcement officers, the council's Police Committee and interviews conducted by the full council, the paper reported.

He was appointed at a specially-called meeting held Thursday.
