Fayette County downs Northside in region opener

FAYETTE - The Fayette County Tigers opened Class 4A, Region 5 play with a 27-12 victory Friday night over the Northside Rams in high school football action.

Trevor Billups caught four passes for 90 yards and a touchdown to lead the Fayette County offense. He caught a 35-yard touchdown pass from Blake Wallace in the first quarter.

Wallace also threw a 40-yard scoring pass to Tre'Darrion Walker. Jason Robinson added an 11-yard touchdown run for Fayette County and Zack Ingle scored on a 1-yard run.

Ashton Pugh caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from Jake Corkren for Northside's first score. John Hutchinson followed with the Rams' second on a 1-yard run.

Corken completed 14 of 28 passes for 187 yards. Luke Stripling caught five passes for 68 yards and Hayden Lake caught two passes for 61 yards.

Fayette County (2-1, 1-0) travels to Cordova next Friday, while Northside hosts Haleyville.

Holy Spirit 62,

Ellwood Christian 6

SELMA –Mason Mulanix passed for six touchdowns and rushed for another as the Holy Spirit Saints crushed Ellwood Christian.

Three of Mulanix's passing touchdowns went to Jaylon Stevenson, two to Joseph Bishop and one to Hunter Watkins. Mulanix also scored on a 29-yard run.

A.J. Lee added two touchdowns for the Saints on runs of 31 and 12 yards. Lee rushed for 140 yards on seven carries.

Holy Spirit (3-0 overall, 1-0 Class 1A, Region 3) hosts Francis Marion next Friday.

Hubbertville 45,

Berry 20

HUBBERTVILLE - Tanner Upton rushed for 238 yards and four touchdowns on 20 carries as the Hubbertville Lions defeated the Berry Wildcats.

Upton scored on runs 2, 2, 21 and 48 yards. Also scoring touchdowns for Hubbertville were Ethan Nichols, Blake Anthony and Zach Hubbert.

Tyler Smith threw three touchdown passes for Berry. He connected twice for scores with Joshua Cannon, before finishing with a touchdown pass to Trenton Smith.

Hubbertville (2-0 overall, 1-0 Class 1A, Region 6) travels to Meek next Friday, while Berry (0-3, 0-1) hosts South Lamar.

Aliceville 32,

Tarrant 6

ALICEVILLE - Zavien Wilkins rushed for 114 yards and one touchdown as the Aliceville Yellow Jackets opened Class 2A, Region 5 play with an easy victory over Tarrant.

Wilkins scored his touchdown on a 2-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Matthew Clark added two touchdowns for the Yellow Jackets on a 67-yard run and a 29-yard pass from Kavon McGraw.

Tyderious Howard returned a kickoff 90 yards for another Aliceville score, while McGraw returned a punt 70 yards for a touchdown.

Aliceville (1-1, 1-0) travels to Sulligent next Friday night.

Central 36,

Jemison 21

JEMISON – Javonta Leatherwood rushed for 256 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Falcons to a road victory.

Leatherwood also added a two-point conversion run and caught two passes for 50 yards.

The Falcons rolled to 441 total yards, including 147 through the air. Nick Jones completed 4 of 10 attempts for 79 yards and Peyton Bachelor went 3 for 4 for 68 yards.

Central (2-1) will host Chilton County next Friday for homecoming.

Lamar County 48,

Hale County 16

MOUNDVILLE - Lamar County opened Class 3A, Region 4 play with a big victory on the road.

The Bulldogs took a 40-0 halftime advantage over the Wildcats. Ric Rogers threw a touchdown pass to CJ Wise, his third of the evening, on the first play of the second half to give Lamar County a 48-0 advantage.

The Bulldogs (2-1, 1-0) hosts Greene County next Friday, while Hale County (1-1, 0-1) travels to Carbon Hill.

Pickens Academy 51,

Meadowview Christian 8

SELMA – Jon Wesley Rye ran for 123 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries to lead the Pirates.

Braden Davidson and William Parker both recovered fumbles for touchdowns. Davidson made nine tackles.

Pickens Academy will host Cornerstone next Friday for homecoming.
