Corkren, Hutchinson lead Northside over Cordova

CORDOVA - Jake Corkren passed for three touchdowns while John Hutchinson rushed for two scores as the Northside Rams defeated Cordova 39-22 Friday night in a Class 4A, Region 5 high school football game.

Corkren threw two of his touchdown passes to Alan Maluda. The duo connected on scoring plays of 43 and 80 yards. Corken's third touchdown pass was a 38-yard play to Hayden Lake.

Hutchinson followed with scoring runs of 2 and 5 yards, while Luke Stripling scored on a 1-yard run.

The Rams raced to a 33-0 halftime lead and took a 39-0 lead on Lake's reception in the third quarter.

Northside (4-1, 2-1) hosts West Blocton next Friday night.

Gordo 46,

Hale County 27

MOUNDVILLE - Troy Garner Jr. rushed for 189 yards and four touchdowns as the Gordo Greenwave stopped Hale County in a Class 3A, Region 4 matchup.

Garner Jr. scored on runs of 3, 3, 66 and 17 yards.

Josh Darling followed with a 1-yard touchdown run, while Jy'tavian Billups returned a fumble 42 yards for a score and Nathan Shepherd scored on a 5-yard run.

Zail Banks led Hale County with three touchdowns, two rushing and one kickoff return. Banks rushed for 138 yards on 19 carries and scored twice on 7-yard runs. He also returned a kickoff 83 yards for another score.

Malachi Pasteur scored Hale County's last touchdown on a 3-yard run.

Cade Junkin led the Gordo defense with 13 tackles, while Deandrius Martin had 12.

Gordo (3-2, 2-1) has a bye next week before hosting Holt on Oct. 5. Hale County (1-3, 0-3) travels to R.C. Hatch next Friday night.

Sipsey Valley 28,

Dallas County 8

PLANTERSVILLE - Jordan Moore passed for two touchdowns as the Sipsey Valley Bears remained unbeaten in Class 4A, Region 3 play with a victory over Dallas County.

Moore threw a 74-yard touchdown pass to Joseph Long and a 35-yard scoring pass to Anthony Abernathy.

Cade Dailey added a 2-yard touchdown run and Harrison Pate blocked a punt and returned it 25 yards for another score.

Sipsey Valley (4-1, 3-0) hosts Fayette County next Friday night.

Berry 33,

Meek 15

BERRY - Isaac Darty scored two touchdowns on offense and one on defense as the Berry Wildcats earned their first victory of the season by beating Meek.

Darty scored his first touchdown on a 20-yard reception from Tyler Smith, his second after blocking a punt and returning it 40 yards and his third on a 2-yard run. Darty also rushed for 121 yards on 15 carries.

Sam Franklin scored Berry's other two touchdowns on runs of 47 and 3 yards.

Will Knight led the Wildcat defense with 10 tackles.

Berry (1-4 overall, 1-0 Class 1A, Region 6) travels to Donoho next Friday night.

Greene County 38,

Holt 17

EUTAW - Jakeri Hill, Zeric Wilson and Keke Spencer each scored two touchdowns as Greene County won its first game of the season with a victory over Holt.

Hill scored on runs of 73 and 4 yards, while Wilson caught touchdown passes of 38 and 49 yards from Karon Coleman.

Spencer scored his touchdowns on receptions of 11 and 52 yards from Coleman.

Greene County (1-3) travels to Sumter Central next Friday night.

Tabernacle Christian 56,

Tuscaloosa Christian 46

GARDENDALE - Landon Pate passed for three touchdowns and rushed for another for Tuscaloosa Christian in a loss to Tabernacle Christian in eight-man football action.

Pate threw two of his touchdowns to Colton Burnette on passes of 53 and 50 yards. Logan Minor caught the third touchdown pass on a 20-yard play. Pate added a 5-yard scoring run.

Burnette also scored on runs of 40 and 16 yards.

Josh Wideman added a 56-yard touchdown run.

Tuscaloosa Christian (0-5) hosts Victory Christian next Friday night.

Aliceville 54,

Cold Springs 6

ALICEVILLE - Zavien Wilkins ran for 214 yards and three touchdowns on just five carries, scoring on runs of 93, 90 and 12 yards to lead the Yellow Jackets. He added a 2-point conversion run.

Nathaniel Latham caught four passes for 144 yards, including touchdown receptions of 42 and 68 yards. He also caught a pair of 2-point conversion passes.

Kavon McGraw scored on an 8-yard run and threw a touchdown pass as well as a 2-point conversion pass. Rodney Jones had a 2-yard touchdown run and a pair of 2-point conversion runs.

Xavieon Glass led Aliceville defensively with 15 tackles. Matthew Clark had 10 stops and Jaquarious Sommerville added nine.

Aliceville (3-1, 3-0 in area play) hosts Pickens County next Friday.
