A South St. Paul lot that has sat vacant for years is now home to a shiny, new restaurant that debuts today. Kaposia Club is up and running and serving breakfast, lunch and dinner and a menu of American pub food.

Greg Miller and his son Matt Miller, the team behind Brookside Bar & Grill (Marine on St. Croix) and Brookside Pub (Scandia), have joined forces with restaurant newcomers Dan Schadegg and Adam McMorrow to open the restaurant on Concord Street just south of Al’s Corral Bar in the vacant parking lot of the former Buckboard Bar. They’ve enlisted chef Bobby Upchurch, a South St. Paul resident who ran a couple of supper clubs in Wisconsin, to head the kitchen.

“We’ll have anything from an $8.50 hamburger to a $30 steak. And if you’ve ever had a Brookside pizza, it’s the same secret recipe that we’ll be serving at Kaposia,” McMorrow said.

In addition, look for daily specials such as fish fry Fridays and prime rib on the weekends.

“I have a degree in agricultural food business management and I’ve always wanted to open a restaurant,” McMorrow said.

For him, opening a restaurant in South St. Paul is near and dear to his heart. “My family grew in this city — mom dad, grandparents, aunts and uncles. My great-grandpa Fred Lawshe started the Dakota County Historical Society. McMorrow Field is named after my grandpa’s brother,” he said. “The name of the restaurant is a nod to this place the kids used to go to after school called Club Kaposia.”
