Two men were shot — one fatally — during a party at a St. Paul house early Saturday, police said.
Calls poured into 911 about 3:30 a.m., reporting multiple people shot in the 400 block of East Maryland Avenue. Officers found “a chaotic scene involving more than 20 people” when they arrived, said Steve Linders, a St. Paul police spokesman.
Police waded through the crowd and found two men with apparent gunshot wounds. Officers rendered aid to them until St. Paul fire department paramedics arrived.
One man was pronounced dead at the scene. Paramedics took the other man to Regions Hospital to be treated for what police believe is a non-life threatening injury.
Police requested a Metro Transit bus to bring about 20 possible witnesses to police headquarters for questioning. Homicide investigators are looking into what led to the shooting.
“We are hopeful that since so many people stepped up and called 911, that they’ll be willing to tell us what happened,” Linders said.
The police department did not announce any arrests in the case on Saturday.
Police were checking to see if there are any videos from inside the house, or nearby businesses or residences that captured what happened, Linders said.
The identity of the man will be released after the Ramsey County medical examiner’s office confirms his identity and his family is notified.
Police are asking anyone with information about the homicide to call them at 651-266-5650.
The killing is the third of the year in St. Paul.
