Who says the Cold War has thawed? A frigid east-west rivalry dating back generations escalates this Sunday when St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter leads an icy attack on a mayor from the other side of the Mississippi River.
Carter joined members of his staff, City Council President Amy Brendmoen and the rest of the seven-member city council in a bold challenge to their Minneapolis counterparts. The officials gathered outside St. Paul City Hall after the 3:30 p.m. council meeting on Wednesday to film an invitation to a snowball fight.

Carter’s office later tweeted a brief video clip, with a personal message to Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and the Minneapolis City Council: “We, the elected officials of the @cityofsaintpaul do hereby officially challenge you to a snowball fight this Sunday, February 24 at 1:00 PM at McMurray Field in Saint Paul. Assemble your crew! #BoldNorth.”
The McMurray Athletic Fields are located at 1151 Wynne Ave. on the south side of Como Park.
