A woman has been charged in the fatal stabbing of a Minneapolis woman that occurred in downtown Minneapolis over the weekend.

On Wednesday, the Hennepin County attorney’s office charged Shermeika Franklin, 39, with second-degree murder with intent and second-degree murder while committing a felony in the stabbing of 42-year-old Mesheka Willis.

The criminal complaint states that on Saturday night, police were called to a parking lot near 810 Hennepin Ave. S., where they found Willis lying on the ground and two people giving her first aid. She later died at Hennepin County Medical Center.

According to the criminal complaint, a woman told authorities she was with Willis across the street from the Hawthorne Ramp when several other people arrived, but she did not see how Willis died.

Investigators later received a call from another woman who said she received a phone call from Franklin in which she said she stabbed Willis.

A surveillance video showed Franklin arguing with Willis and later Willis staggering away and falling to the ground, according to the complaint. Franklin is scheduled for her first court appearance Thursday.
