MANCHESTER -- Eight people were arrested during a prostitution sweep conducted on Good Friday in the center city, police said.
Manchester police said the department’s Special Enforcement Division performed the daylong investigation Friday after receiving complaints regarding “quality of life” issues in the area of Lincoln and Laurel streets.
According to police, the first arrest was made about 8:20 a.m., when Noorullah Azizi, 27, allegedly agreed to exchange money for sexual favors with a plain clothes officer. He was taken into custody by a marked police unit a short time later and charged with prostitution.
The next arrest was about 9:30 a.m., when police say an undercover officer in an unmarked vehicle was approached by Kira Crayton, 23, in the area of Lincoln and Hanover streets. Crayton was arrested on a charge of prostitution after police say she agreed to exchange money for sexual favors with a plain clothes officer.
Police say John Igeihon, 44, approached an undercover officer in the area of Lincoln and Laurel streets, then agreed to pay money for sexual favors. Igeihon was arrested by officers and charged with prostitution.
On Manchester Street, police say Mistie Donoghue Bourgeois, 28, approached an undercover officer and agreed to perform sexual favors in exchange for money. Donoghue Bourgeois was taken into custody on charges of prostitution and contempt of court.
About 1:25 p.m., police said Joshua Mimms, 42, pulled onto the west side of Lincoln Street between Laurel and Merrimack streets, where he spoke with an undercover officer and offered to pay for sexual favors. Mimms was arrested and charged with prostitution.
About 1:50 p.m. Friday, police say Julio Samaniego, 30, approached an officer on Lincoln Street and agreed to pay cash for sex. Samaniego was arrested and charged with prostitution.
Police said the last arrest of the day was Robert Connolly, 71, who allegedly approached an officer about 2:10 p.m. and agreed to exchange money for sexual favors. He was taken into custody and charged with prostitution.
Police said all eight were released on personal recognizance bail and scheduled to appear May 23 in 9th Circuit Court-Manchester.
