18-foot pig traveling around Michigan to advocate for state's term limits

An 18-foot pig is probably the last thing you would expect to see as you're driving down the highway.

But if you've been driving around Marquette, you've probably seen the giant hog, taking up space and capturing your attention.

"Up here I get thumbs up all day long,” said Jeff Tillman, the hog wrangler advocating for Michigan term limits. "I get followed into gas stations. I get followed into restaurants."

Tillman says these people are interested in learning more about the message he is promoting.

"This is an effort started November 20,” explained Tillman. “A group of former legislators that were term limited out and some lobbyists have ganged up and decided that they're going to try to overturn Michigan's term limits, our constitutional amendments.”

Tillman wants these legislators and lobbyists to leave term limits alone.

"We need new people, new ideas coming in, and that's the effort that I want to stand up for and go with and it's very popular,” he said.

Tillman says he has experienced a couple of thumbs down from people on this topic.

"It doesn't seem to make any sense to me that I'm only allowed to serve six in the house,” said Representative Beau LaFave (R-Iron Mountain) of Michigan’s 108th State House District. "It creates unnecessary friction where I'm perfectly happy serving a couple of more terms in the House before I go to the private sector. I don't think I should be necessarily forced into the Senate when I love my House seat."

"U.S. Term limits is accusing me of leading a charge to change term limits. I am not doing that. Michigan has some of the strictest term limits in the nation, and that's the system that we work under,” said Representative Greg Markkanen (R-Hancock) of Michigan’s 110th State House District.

From here, Tillman will take off to Newberry and then Sault Ste. Marie to continue advocating on this issue.
