Jeep, Hyundai, Lincoln, Subaru SUVs among hottest sellers in November

As if Jeep needed more momentum.

The Fiat Chrysler Automobiles brand has been red-hot in the showroom this year, capitalizing on the industry-wide transition from passenger cars into SUVs and crossovers.

Now, the brand is poised to add a midsize pickup to its lineup. Fiat Chrysler revealed the Jeep Gladiator pickup Wednesday at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

It's as close to a guaranteed hit as you'll see in the auto industry.

For now, Jeep will have to settle for owning two slots on USA TODAY's list of the hottest-selling vehicles of November, as determined by sales volume, momentum and buzz:

The 2018 Jeep Cherokee.

1. Jeep Cherokee

November sales: 20,296, up 22.6 percent

This red-hot SUV is Jeep's best-seller and Fiat Chrysler's second-best-seller, trailing only the Ram pickup.

It's benefiting from Jeep's superb year. The brand rose 18.2 percent in the first 11 months and will likely fall just short of 1 million vehicles for all of 2018.

The Cherokee also happens to be the most made-in-America vehicle, according to Cars.com's 2018 rankings.

The Jeep Wrangler is a two- or four-door SUV designed to be highly capable off-road and offer a wide variety of customization possibilities.

2. Jeep Wrangler

November sales: 15,963, up 20.1 percent

The Wrangler's fan base continues to reward the automaker for recently redesigning the vehicle.

"The Wrangler has become the most recognizable vehicle in the world," Jeep North America brand chief Tim Kuniskis said at the LA Auto Show.

That may be hyperbole. But Jeep is betting it's not.

The Wrangler has now given birth to a new companion in the showroom: The Gladiator is essentially a Wrangler with a pickup bed.

The 2019 Subaru Forester.

3. Subaru Forester

November sales: 16,066, up 9.6 percent

Subaru in November achieved its 84th consecutive month of year-over-year sales increases. That's seven years of growth.

And the Forester was a big reason driving the latest uptick.

The SUV was recently redesigned, which helped propel the vehicle to the title of Subaru's best-seller in November, outpacing the Outback.

The 2019 Hyundai Kona, one of the newest subcompact crossovers.

4. Hyundai Kona

November sales: 5,976 (was not on sale a year earlier)

Give Hyundai credit. After falling badly behind the industry's transition to SUVs and crossovers, the brand is catching up.

At the L.A. Auto Show, the company introduced the Palisade SUV, a three-row model.

But the smaller Kona crossover is already building a base. The company sold nearly 6,000 of them in their first November in showrooms.

That's almost seven times more than the struggling Hyundai Veloster passenger car, which has been on the market for years.

Lincoln Navigator is even more premium as the Black Label edition

5. Lincoln Navigator

November sales: 1,566, up 27.3 percent

Ford's redesign of the Navigator is paying big dividends. Customers are paying an average of $26,000 or more for the new version.

The Lincoln Black Label Navigator, a loaded version of the big SUV, is particularly hot.
