A billboard in Baltimore posted by the controversial animal-rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals shows a cartoon version of Jared Kushner next to a rat.

The billboard plays off the revelation that President Donald Trump's son-in-law owned multiple rat-infested buildings in Baltimore, calling him a "rich pest" as a cartoonized depiction of him sits atop a pile of money.

The news followed Trump's recent statements attacking Baltimore, calling it a "rat and rodent infested mess."

Next to Kushner is a drawing of a rat holding a crumb.

"Poor guy just trying to survive," the caption reads.

“Smart, social, resourceful rats who are just trying to eke out an existence suffer when entitled landlords neglect humane rodent-control measures,” PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said in a statement.

Days after Trump called the city of Baltimore a "mess" compared with conditions on the southern border, a report showed that Kushner's family real-estate firm owns thousands of apartments and townhomes that violated housing codes over 200 times in the span of 10 months.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called Kushner a "slumlord" in reference to this report.

In their statement, PETA also called for the humane removal of rodents from apartment buildings.

PETA has courted controversy in the past, likening "speciesism" to racism, homophobia and ableism. The same message is also conveyed in its call against Kushner.
