Ugly sweater time! Alaska Airlines to give priority boarding to people in holiday gear

Break out your ugliest sweater (again), Alaska Airlines passengers. Or if you have a cute one, that's fine, too!

Airline passengers may pay a pretty penny for priority boarding, but Alaska Airlines will let flyers wearing holiday sweaters board early on Dec. 20 in honor of National Ugly Holiday Sweater Day. This is the third year in a row the airline has celebrated the viral day.

Passengers are encouraged to tweet photos and videos of themselves getting into the holiday spirit with the hashtags #UglySweaterDay and #iFlyAlaska.

The airline's festiveness isn't stopping there: It's also playing holiday-themed boarding music and free holiday movies onboard throughout the month. Alaska is also flying a holiday-themed "Snowplane" across its network through the winter ski season, and serving holiday-inspired beverages and cocktails in Alaska lounges. Customers can enjoy a special hot toddy cocktail on National Ugly Sweater Day.

"We know holiday travel can be stressful for some, which is why we've made sure flying with the 'merrier carrier' this time of year is an experience that brings nonstop joy to all our guests. We love going above and beyond to make your trip memorable; celebrating Ugly Sweater Day is just another way we're making the holidays a priority," Natalie Bowman, Alaska Airlines' managing director of marketing and advertising, said in a news release.
