UPDATE:

A Fargo family is facing about $5,000 in damage after a fire broke out in their home.

It happened around 4 Friday evening in the 4000 block of Estate Drive South. Fire officials say the caller reported that there were smoke and flames in the basement of the house. The first unit arrived in about five minutes and reported smoke coming from the garage of a row house with three connected homes. Crews had difficulties gaining access to the neighborhood because of narrow private roads and illegal parking.

Once on scene, crews had to maneuver through excessive storage in the basement to find the fire. The fire was knocked down within fifteen minutes of the first engine’s arrival.

Initial reports from the homeowner indicated that all of the occupants and pets were out of the house. As one crew attacked the fire, other crews checked the first and second floors and the neighboring home for fire extension. The fire did not extend to other areas of the house or to the neighboring attached home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
