North Dakota gas average plummets to 2018 low

While the November average gas price in North Dakota was the highest since 2014, motorists are now filling up their tanks with the year’s lowest-priced gas.

According to AAA’s daily survey of gas stations, North Dakota consumers paid an average of $2.67 a gallon for regular gasoline during the month of November. That was the highest average since November 2014 when the average price paid was $3.03. The average has dropped sharply in December to a current average of $2.43, the lowest price since October 2017. The national average of $2.44 is also a low for the year.

Gas prices will likely continue to fall on strong inventory levels for both crude oil and gas, according to AAA. The build in oil has resulted in the price for a barrel of benchmark crude falling 30 percent over the past 10 weeks. Without a sharp increase in the price for crude oil, North Dakota consumers could see gas prices drop below $2.30 by the end of the year. A handful of stations are currently selling gas for less than $2 a gallon on the eastern side of the state.
