After weeks of preparing for the worst, a lower flood crest is now more likely for Fargo. The city is now preparing for a possible crest of 39 feet and not the nearly 41 feet that had been a possibility.

Because of that, the city of Fargo is scaling back on its goal of filling one million sandbags. They're now filling 400,000 which they say, should be sufficient for the flood fight. However if these flooding predictions change, officials with the city tell us they'll be ready to fill more.

"If for some reason, things do change and we have higher levels, Sandbag Central will be set up and we can fire it back up, if needed,” says City of Fargo Division Engineer, Nathan Boerboom.

Now this is just the first step in the flood fight. City leaders tell us they'll soon need helping hands to deploy the sandbags when the river rises. That's expected to slightly happen this weekend. The river is at about 17 feet right now but could be over 18 by Sunday.
