The sister of a man who pulled the trigger in an overnight shooting in south Fargo says he was acting in self-defense.

Fargo Police said officers detained a man Saturday at around 3:30 a.m. that they found with a shotgun. He was in the stairwell of the Aldin Pines Apartments.

The building is located on the 1000 block of 42nd Street S. On the third floor, police located a man with a gunshot wound.

One resident told Valley News Live he walked into the incident as he was going to his apartment.

“I know one guy was upstairs screaming because he got shot. And the other guy was on the stairs,” Shelton Moseby said. “They were both scared and I heard a loaded shotgun.”

Moseby said he remembers hearing the shooter talking to himself.

“I heard him talking about that 'he had the gun to my head and I'm scared,'” Moseby said.

Moseby also saw when law enforcement surrounded the area.

Another resident of the apartment complex, Donovan Bruns, said his cat heard the gun shot and ran to his room.

“All I actually heard was a bunch of people coming in this door,” Bruns said pointing to a door in his hallway.

The shooter’s sister, who declined speaking on-camera, described her brother as a 21-year-old with a 7-month-old baby.

She said the incident started inside an apartment he shares with his fiancé.

She also claimed the victim pulled a gun out first and that her brother reacted in self-defense.

That victim is in stable condition.

The Fargo Police Department has yet to arrest any person in connection to this shooting.
