School Resource Officer Dora Roll has been awarded the Purple Heart Award.

The West Fargo Police Department says the Purple Heart is given to sworn officers who were seriously injured or wounded in the line of duty.

On October of 2018, SRO Roll saw a man push a woman into a West Fargo street. As Roll approached the man, he took off.

The police department says when Roll caught him, he resisted arrest and during an altercation, fell on Roll's leg breaking her ankle.

With the broken ankle, Roll stayed in the fight and a community member assisted her in getting the suspect into custody.

SRO Roll had to have a plate and six screws put into her ankle to stabilize it.
