New brush fire breaks out near Olivas Park Drive and Victoria Avenue

A small brush fire broke out Monday afternoon near the site of last week's Olivas Fire outside Ventura.

Monday's blaze was called in around 3:05 p.m. south of the Buenaventura Golf Course on Olivas Park Drive and Victoria Avenue. The so-called Park Incident was burning outside the footprint of the earlier fire, officials said.

At around 4:30 p.m., crews at the scene said forward progress had been stopped. They described the blaze as .4 acres with several spots. They expected to remain on scene another two hours or so.

Last week's Olivas Fire started around 4 a.m. Friday near the Santa Clara River bottom at the south edge of the golf course, just outside Ventura city limits. That fire, which spotted westward across Victoria Avenue, burned about 200 acres during Santa Ana winds that worsened blazes around Southern California Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Multiple firefighting units were called in for Monday's incident. As of 4 p.m. eight engines, a water tanker, a hand crew and a helicopter were working the fire, authorities said. The cause was still under investigation.
