Hannaford helps to establish weekend food pantry for Bangor kids

Organizers call it a giant step forward in ensuring Bangor area kids get the food they need.

Hannaford Supermarkets has donated $85,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of Bangor to create an on-site food pantry to let kids in need take food home with them on Fridays for the weekend.

The Boys and Girls Club already had programs in place for their kids during the school week and the summer - this is what they felt they were lacking.

"It's really important that the kids are well fed and have nutritious meals for them to be able to learn. Our mission here at the Boys and Girls Club is to help them reach their full potential. We feel like feeding them and making sure they have access to that food is really important to their development," said Catherine Myatt.
