A police officer was injured chasing a driver suspected of failing to stop for police.

The chase started at about 2.15pm on Thursday, June 4 when the suspect stopped in Pentregethin Drive, Swansea and made off on foot.

South Wales Police said the police officer "fell and was injured" during the chase.

Resident, Mark Thomas, 53, said he and other neighbours helped the officer, who seemed hurt after sprinting into a lamp post and was unsteady on his feet.

There were a number of police vehicles in the area
An ambulance at the scene

Mr Thomas said there had been at least eight police cars in the area, along with a police dog van and a large police van.

"I was in the kitchen and I heard police cars in the back lane. I could see the builders, who are working on my garden, run towards it and I could see something was up," he said.

"I followed them and I could see the officer near my workers' truck. He had hurt his head and I told him to lie down. A neighbour came with a first aid kit and a local shop owner brought kitchen roll to him.

"I stayed with him for a while with two other police officers to talk to him until an ambulance came about 15 or 20 minutes later."
