A man has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking following a crash on a residential street in Cardiff.

Officers from South Wales Police spotted the Ford Fiesta which was allegedly stolen from Machen, near Caerphilly, in a pursuit which led to the vehicle crashing in Llanishen on Friday night.

Police say a 25-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking following the incident, which happened on Station Road just before 11pm on May, 22.

A spokesman for the force said: "Shortly before 11pm [on Friday], emergency services were called to a single vehicle road traffic collision on Station Road in Llanishen.

"A 25-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking.

"After treatment for his injuries he has been taken to Cardiff Bay police station where he is being questioned."

The man has since been released under investigation.

An image posted on Twitter by South Wales Police's roads policing unit shows the car badly damaged in the street, near the shopping village.

No members of the public were injured during the incident.
