It's one of the city's most outdated buildings, and now the date for its demolition has been announced.

St David's House on Wood Street will be demolished as part of the transformation of Cardiff's Central Square.

With the BBC headquarters already built, two new office blocks constructed and filled and a new bus station approved by planners, developers are set to begin their next project in the area - sandwiched between Cardiff Central railway station and the Principality Stadium.

All stores except Tesco Express have now moved from St David's House, with Greggs and Boots moving into new units at the BBC headquarters across the road.

Tesco has confirmed it will close its shop early in December and its new store will open the next morning in a currently vacant unit in the BBC headquarters across the road.

What's being built at Central Square?

1 Central Square - This was the first building to open. Tenants include MotoNovo Finance, Blake Morgan and Hodge Group.

2 Central Square - Hugh James moved its 700 staff into the second office block in October. Cardiff University has also taken space inside the building for its journalism school. Hugh James has taken six floors in the building while the lower levels are occupied by Cardiff University's School of Journalism, Media and Culture.

BBC headquarters - The BBC headquarters is now being fit out inside with the first staff due to move in autumn 2019.

The first of more than 1,000 BBC Cymru Wales staff will start a phased relocation to the new HQ from their current base in Llandaff and is expected to be fully operational by 2020.

Bus station - The long awaited bus station was back before council planners in November 2018. The plans include a 14-bay bus interchange within a concourse, 305 flats in a 22-storey tower block in Wood Street and another nine-storey building fronting Marland Street, a six-storey office block, a 249-space private car park and seven ground floor shops.

The council hopes the bus station will be operational in 2021.

What will happen to buses?

From January 6, changes will be made to bus services in the city centre.
