A disgusting pile of rubbish including alcohol bottles, smashed glass and drug paraphernalia can be seen beneath the Tinopolis car park in Llanelli town centre.

The multi-storey car park, situated in Park Street, houses a lane that is used as a short cut from Llanelli's Eastgate centre to shops surrounding the Lliedi river.

But it seems that the lane is also being used as a dumping ground to dispose of all kinds of rubbish.

Llanelli resident Helen Davies said: "It's a disgusting sight. I was shocked when I saw how much rubbish was there."

Amongst all the rubbish is a mass of empty alcohol bottles

The 34-year-old added: "Judging by the alcohol and needles I think that it's used for anti-social behaviour and by drug users because it's quiet down there - I wouldn't want to walk down the lane alone in the night.

"It's really sad actually because we know Llanelli has a drug problem but we have so many nice events on and people are trying to pull the town together but some people just want to ruin it."

The news comes as four men were jailed last week for a County Lines operation where they travelled from the West Midlands to Llanelli in order to sell drugs.

Speaking after the sentencing, Dyfed-Powys Police detective sergeant Andy Clatworthy said: "I want to reassure the public across Carmarthenshire that we are working closely with partners to reduce drug misuse within our communities, to make it a less lucrative market for drug suppliers to operate in, and in doing so, make Carmarthenshire a safer place to live."

Carmarthenshire Council said it was aware of the problem.

Environmental services manager Daniel John said: “A long-term solution to prevent access to this area is being explored at present. In the meantime, the area will be cleared and cleaned.”
