A man who sustained a fractured skull after being hit over the head in an assault in Cardiff has received life-changing injuries.

Police were called to Illtyd Road, in Ely, at around 11pm on Monday, May 4, after a 38-year-old man was hit over the head with what is believed to be some kind of weapon.

This caused significant bleeding and serious injuries.

A 36-year-old man from Grangetown has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit assault and has been released on bail pending further enquiries. It is believed a number of people were involved in the assault.

South Wales Police said an investigation into the assault is ongoing and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
