A shocking image has captured the moment a car went up in flames during the early hours of the morning in Swansea.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service and South Wales Police were called to Rhondda Street in Mount Pleasant at around 4.25am on June 4.

One vehicle was completely destroyed and a property received some damage as a result of the fire.

The picture shows smoke and flames in the air and residents were woken up to the sound of a "car explosion". 

The incident is under police investigation.

A spokesman for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "On Thursday, 04 June 2020 at 04:13am, firefighters from Swansea Central attended a vehicle fire in Rhondda Street, Mount Pleasant, Swansea.

"One vehicle was completely destroyed and a neighbouring property received some damage as a result of the fire. The crew extinguished the fire using a hose reel jet and one breathing apparatus.

"The police were also in attendance. The Fire Service left the incident at 04:48am."

South Wales Police are appealing for anyone with any information to come forward.

A spokeswoman for the force said: "We attended the report of a car fire in Rhondda Street at about 4.25am this morning.

"The fire had also caused damage to a property."

An investigation is ongoing and anyone with information should contact 101 quoting occurrence 2000195763
