A man has been taken to hospital after a crash on a main road in Carmarthenshire.

The one-vehicle crash happened at around 11.45am on the westbound stretch of the A48, between Cross Hands and Porthyrhyd, to the east of Carmarthen.

Fire crews from Carmarthen, Tumble and Ammanford all attended the scene along with officers from Dyfed-Powys Police.

The westbound stretch of the road, which connects Cross Hands and Carmarthen, was blocked for more than an hour.

A spokeswoman for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “We received a call at 11.54am alerting us to a road traffic collision on the A48 east of Carmarthen.

“Three fire crews attended the scene and released one person from a vehicle using hydraulic cutting gear."

Police said the crash involved a Toyota MR2 which had left the road.

The male driver, who was the only person in the car, has been taken to Glangwili Hospital by ambulance.

There are no details yet as to the severity of his injuries.

Road reopened after vehicle recovered

The westbound stretch of the A48 has reopened, according to police.

The vehicle involved in the crash has been recovered and the road is now clear.

He was cut out of his vehicle, a blue Toyota MR2, after it had left the road.

He has been taken to Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen.
