There were three crashes on a main road in Swansea which caused severe delays for drivers travelling both in and out of the city.

The first incident happened at 5.30pm on Tuesday December 4 on the A4067 Mumbles Road near the old slip bridge.

A car collided with a male pedestrian who was subsequently taken to Morriston hospital with serious injuries.

Police closed the road for over four hours while they cleared the scene.

The second crash occurred at 6.29pm on Mumbles Road near Blackpill, which involved two vehicles. Noone was seriously injured.

The third crash involved three cars and happened on Fabian Way at Port Tennant at 6.35pm.

There were reports of severe congestion all the way through Swansea back to the Fabian Way Park and Ride.

Roads including West Way past Tesco and St Helens Road were also severely congested.

Pedestrian seriously injured in collision with car

The incident which occurred on Mumbles Road near the Bay View pub involved a car and a pedestrian.

A spokesman for South Wales Police said:

At approximately 5:30pm on Tuesday 4 December 2018, a serious injury road traffic collision occurred at the A4067 Mumbles road on the Mumbles bound (westbound) carriageway near the old slip bridge.

​A silver coloured Vauxhall Astra was in collision with a male pedestrian who sustained serious injuries. He was conveyed to Morriston Hospital where he is receiving treatment for his injuries.

The road was closed for several hours to allow collision investigation work to be carried out, and Police would like to thank the public for their patience during this time.

The road is still closed while the scene is cleared.

No serious injuries

A spokesman for South Wales Police said nobody was seriously injured in either the three-car incident on Fabian Way or in the two-vehicle crash at Blackpill.

They did not comment on the third incident which occurred at the Bay View pub on Oystermouth Road.

There is still heavy traffic on Mumbles Road, with congestion all the way to the Leisure Centre.

Traffic starting to clear

The accidents on Mumbles Road at Blackpill and on Fabian Way at Port Tennant have now been cleared.

The road is still closed on Mumbles Road at the Bay View pub.

Both recovery work and carriageway clean up will need to take place before the road can be reopened.

There have been multiple accidents in Swansea, throughout the afternoon peak and traffic is slowly starting to recover.

Third accident affecting Swansea traffic on A4067 Mumbles Road Southbound at B4436 Mayals Road

A third accident happened on Mumbles Road at Blackpill just after 6.30pm.

Two cars were involved in the incident, which happened on the southbound carriageway near the junction at B4436 Mayals Road.

One lane is closed and traffic is still heavy as the emergency services work to clear the scene.

Slow traffic on Fabian Way inbound

Traffic is slow on the A483 Fabian Way at Port Tennant due to the accident involving three vehicles.

One lane is partially blocked, just before Kings Road (The Ship Traffic Lights).
Traffic in the area is already very heavy due to two other accidents on A4067 Mumbles area.

Westbound carraigeway on Oystermouth Road closed

The westbound carriageway on Oystermouth Road is closed between the junction with Argyle Street and the Bay View Pub.

Police are still at the scene.

The road is clear for traffic coming into Swansea from Mumbles direction.

There have been two accidents this evening

There was an earlier accident on Oystermouth Road, involving just one vehicle.

It happened at around 5.30pm just past the Bay View Public House.

Emergency services were called to the scene and one male was taken to hospital by ambulance.

The fire services were also on hand to help make the crashed vehicle safe.

Crash on Fabian Way involves three cars

A spokesman for South Wales Police confirmed they were alerted to a crash on Fabian Way just after 6.30pm.

They say three cars are involved.

Officers are still travelling to the scene to assess the incident.
