A man is in a critical condition in hospital after an alleged serious assault in Swansea.

The incident happened at around 11.25pm on Saturday night near the Primark store in the city centre.

The victim, who is 61 years old, was taken to the University Hospital of Wales in the early hours of Sunday morning, where he remains.

He is in a stable but critical condition.

Two men, aged 33 and 21, have been arrested in connection with the incident and released on police bail.

Police are now calling for witnesses who may have seen what happened to contact them, especially two men who they believe were in the area at the time of the alleged assault.

A spokeswoman for South Wales Police said: “We are appealing for information and witnesses after a serious assault in Swansea.

“The incident happened at about 11.25pm on Saturday, June 15, at the side of Primark near the roundabout for Princess Way and Caer Street.

“We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed or filmed the incident to come forward.

“In particular we are keen to hear from two men who we believed witnessed the incident – the first was wearing a black leather jacket and the second a white gillet.

“We are also keen to hear from any taxi drivers using the nearby taxi rank as we believe a taxi driver was in the immediate vicinity at the time of the incident, and are asking anyone who may have dashcam footage to please review it between 11.15pm and 11.30pm on Saturday evening.”
