A Swansea street was "flooded with police" in the early hours of the morning after officers pursued a vehicle.

At least six police cars were spotted lined up along Penfilia Road, near Brynhyfryd Square, just before 1am last night, where they detained the driver after he crashed into a lamp post.

The wide-scale pursuit, which also involved a police helicopter, came after the vehicle failed to stop for officers who were on routine patrol along Neath Road in Hafod.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop for an officer and driving while unfit through alcohol or drugs, whilst his vehicle was also seized.

A witness, who asked not to be named said: "All the street lights went out and then street was flooded with police and you could see a car had hit the lamp post.

"About seven or eight armed response flew back up the road towards Manselton Hotel then."

The witness added that the incident caused a disturbance in the neighbourhood, as many were awoken by the noise.
