The A40 in Monmouthshire is currently closed in two locations after two separate crashes.

A serious crash has led to the road being closed closed northbound near Raglan from Raglan Interchange (A449) to the Gibraltar Tunnels (B4293 Beech Road).

Traffic is understood to be coping well.

The A40 is closed in both directions from Cross Street to Lion Street in Abergavenny because of another crash.

The road is likely to remain closed until midday.

Ambulance service update

A spokeswoman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said they were called to the crash near Raglan at 2.35am. They attended to the crash with three rapid response vehicles and an ambulance, she continued, but no one was taken to hospital.

She said they left the scene at 7am this morning.

The spokeswoman said they were called to the crash in Abergavenny at 2.30am, attending with two ambulances and two rapid response vehicles.

She added: “One patient was taken to Nevill Hall hospital with non life threatening injuries.”

Traffic Wales

According to Traffic Wales, the A40 was first closed northbound from Raglan to Monmouth at 3.30am this morning. The Welsh Government road information service expects the road to reopen at around 9.30am.

Traffic Wales has classed the crash in Abergavenny as “severe”, adding the road is expected to reopen around 12.15pm.

A spokeswoman for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said fire services haven’t been called to either crash.
