Devastated friends of a Swansea murder victim have been paying tribute to her.

A 49-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and police are appealing for information after the 22-year-old's body was found in Carlton Terrace, Mount Pleasant, at 3.10am this morning (Tuesday, April 23).

The area remains cordoned off and armed officers have been at the scene making inquiries.

The victim has been named locally as Sammy Lee Lodwig, a former pupil at Bishop Gore Comprehensive.

Her friend Tegan Davies in a Facebook tribute said: “Rest in Peace Beautiful.”

Meanwhile Chanelle Jones added: “Such a cruel world!!!(crying and broken heart emojis)”

A murder probe has been launched following the killing of Sammy Lee Lodwig

Sophie Rees posted on Facebook: "So shocked this morning. Rip Sammy Lee Lodwig. You were a hell of a girl fair play! Always made me laugh in town chasing Rocky around the place! Didn't deserve that at all! You were a beautiful soul inside and out. Rest in peace!"

Charlotte Victoria Leckie posted: "R.I.P Sammy Lee Lodwig, every time you seen me we would have a good chuckle and you always said how beautiful I was... truth is your the beautiful one, feisty but a lush soul. Such sad news what's happened, too young to go... justice will be served...sleep tight mate."

Jay Marie said: “So sad. RIP Sammy x”

Police were originally called out to the incident in Carlton Terrace at around 3.10am after being alert of a serious assault leading to the death of a 22-year-old.

Meanwhile, Samantha Louise Lerwell added: “Rest in peace Sammy (with a sad emoji)xxx”

Amina Snooks also paid glowing tribute to her and added: “Rest in peace Sammy, amazing kind girl xx”

Her friend Bobbie Kittle said she would be very much missed and said: “Rip Sammy bbe loved u like a lil sister missing u already hun xxx”

Her pal Alisha Marie Dolphin added:  “RIP Sammy, You were such a big character!!” 

On Tuesday afternoon, South Wales Police confirmed they had launched a murder investigation.

DCI Darren George said: “A 49-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and at this time we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this matter.

“We are keen that anyone with information comes forward and we are particularly keen to speak to anyone who was in the Carlton Terrace area of Swansea between 8pm yesterday and 4am this morning."
