A woman was held at knifepoint and locked in a bedroom during a late-night robbery.

Two hooded men forced their way into the flat at the Quick Stop Convenience Store and Post Office on Brook Street in Tonypandy , Rhondda , at 9.30pm on Sunday.

The thieves ordered a woman inside the property to open the safe at knifepoint before locking her in a bedroom.

The pair then fled the scene with a “substantial amount of cash”.

The alarm was raised at 10.15pm when shop owner, who was on the shop floor at the time, found the woman in a bedroom.

South Wales Police is now appealing for anyone who saw the two suspects on the night of the robbery to come forward.

The first man is described as being approximately 5ft 10-11in, is in his 20s and of a medium build. He is believed to have a local accent and was wearing a black waterproof jacket, black hooded top and black tracksuit bottoms.

The second man is described as being white, approximately 5ft 4in tall and also in his 20s. It is thought he possibly had a Cardiff accent and was wearing a black woolly hat, black hooded top and black tracksuit bottoms.
