Swansea City defender Martin Olsson will see a specialist as the club wait to establish the full extent of the injury he suffered at Brentford.

The Sweden international went down in a heap in just the ninth minute at Griffin Park, shortly after playing a ball up the line.

He received prolonged treatment which led to there being eight minutes of first-half stoppage time, and he was given oxygen as the medical staff worked on him.

The left-back was eventually stretchered off and manager Graham Potter admitted the prognosis did “not look good” in the wake of Swansea’s 3-2 victory.

Olsson was set to undergo a scan but the club have now confirmed he will also see a specialist early in the coming week to make sure they have the fullest grasp of the nature of the problem and can plot the best recovery protocols to follow.

Swansea have had wretched luck with Achilles injuries in recent seasons, with Nathan Dyer and Leroy Fer suffering ruptures to the tendon in February 2017 and February 2018 respectively.

Potter had said on Saturday: “It may be a little bit early to say if (how bad it is) I am honest, but it does not look good to be honest.

"It is in his Achilles area but we will have to get it scanned before we know the full extent of that."

A number of Olsson's team-mates dedicated the win to the 30-year-old, including striker Oli McBurnie, who tweeted his support.

Swansea have Declan John and Matt Grimes as left-back options, while Connor Roberts and Kyle Naughton are also capable of filling in on that side of defence if required.
