Steve Cooper has revealed a raft of the club's under-23 players have been training with Swansea City's first team since his appointment as head coach.

The Swans took no fewer than six members of Cameron Toshack and Gary Richards' squad with them to Spain for a week-long training camp in the early stages of pre-season.

Three academy products - Jordon Garrick, Ben Cabango and Kees de Boer - made their first-team debuts in the 3-1 first round Carabao Cup win over Northampton Town at the Liberty Stadium earlier this month.

It comes after Graham Potter used a total of nine players from the club's academy during his sole season as Swansea manager.

And Cooper admits he's keen to ensure the pathway from the youth system to the first team remains firmly open.

Jordan Garrick could well be Swansea's next academy success

"Ben and Jordon are present at the moment and have been travelling with the squad, but that can change from game to game," said the Swansea head coach.

"Since we started, Brandon Cooper's been with us on numerous occasions. Jack Evans has been a near ever-present, Liam Cullen has been involved, there's loads of names I could give you.

"When there's an opportunity to bring players up, we will do that.

"The day after a game is usually a good training day to put the groups together so we can have a look at the others and get the numbers right for training.

Ben Cabango on his Swansea debut against Northampton

"Sometimes it can be positional and other times it can be because a player needs to be with us because of his programme.

"We really want to create an opportunity for young players to be involved in the first team programme, one, so we can work with them and two, so they can show us what they're capable of.

"I think that's a good place to be because we're a club that wants to continue to produce our own, and we can only do that by giving players opportunities."
