Football betting can reap phenomenal rewards, whether financial or otherwise.

But it can also have consequences that last a lifetime.

Just ask Swansea City fan Ryan Pridmore.

Ryan was one of many who had concerns heading into the 2018/19 campaign following the relegation from the Premier League.

But as early as the fourth league game of the season - against Leeds United at the Liberty Stadium - Ryan made a bet with a fellow Swan that would go on to have a lasting impact.

His pal was confident star striker Oli McBurnie would run riot in the Championship, although Ryan was not unconvinced.

Ryan bet that the Scot would not score 20 or more league goals, but after McBurnie struck the first of his two goals in the 2-2 draw with Hull in April, the Swansea supporter was preparing for a trip to the tattoo parlour to have the 23-year-old's name permanently inked on his backside.

The reality started to kick in. But he wasn't done there.

After the news of Ryan's lost bet was quickly spread on social media after the draw with the Tigers, McBurnie himself took to Twitter to get involved, offering to pay for the tattoo as well as saying if Ryan wanted to raise money for charity, he would match whatever figure he collected.

Just hours after the Swans' clash with Hull, McBurnie wrote on his official Twitter account: "I'll pay for tattoo, and I'll match whatever it raises for a charity of your choice if people wanna donate x."

Oli McBurnie celebrates scoring his 20th league goal of the season against Hull

Explaining the bet, Ryan said: "The Swans had Leeds early on in the season and my friend said to me, "Oli McBurnie will score loads in this division, I think 25-30, let's have an ass tattoo bet on it, 20 goals in the league was the bet.

"Let's be clear, this wasn't a slight on McBurnie, I just didn't think we'd create the chances for him to get 20 goals, but he went on an Alan Shearer like run and I was there to witness his 20th goal of the season and it all kicked off.

"Everyone tagged McBurnie in tweets, and fair play to him, being the legend he is, he said if I wanted to raise money for charity, he said he would match the money I raised."

To his credit, Ryan stuck to his words and had "Oli McBurnie is class... pass it on" tattooed on his bum earlier this month.

And his efforts have helped to raise £1,600 for armed forces charity Sa1ute , meaning - at the time of writing - £3,200 will be donated to the charity once McBurnie has chipped in.

Ryan's new Oli McBurnie tattoo

Ryan - creator of the AiCPodcast - has previous when it comes to ink.

At the tail end of the 2016/17 campaign, Ryan bet a friend that Swansea would not win their final three matches of the season.

As luck would have it, Paul Clement's troops defeated Everton, Sunderland and West Brom as they completed the great escape.

And as a result of losing that particular bet, Ryan had "Bob Bradley's Megnuts" tattooed on his backside while on a stag do in Benidorm.

As Ryan says himself, "I may be an idiot, but one thing I am is a man of my word".

But to his credit, he has made the best of a somewhat unfortunate situation with his latest losing bet.
