Swansea City have started the process of refunding fans over ticket purchases ahead of the Championship's return later this month.

The 2019/20 campaign has been on hold since March owing to the coronavirus outbreak.

But EFL bosses have confirmed that the second tier is set to resume on the weekend of June 20.

During the period of postponement, Swansea - who have four home games left to play this term - confirmed that the Jack Army are eligible for partial refunds of season tickets and hospitality given that the season would have either been curtailed or seen matches played behind-closed-doors.

However, Trevor Birch revealed the club could lose around £1m by refunding fans.

As a result, the Swansea chairman urged fans to take up other options to help stem the club's cash-flow crisis.

"I am sure you will understand that clubs are facing a very uncertain financial future as regards to what football will look like going forwards - and we are no different," Birch said in a statement last month.

"I would hope therefore, that our supporters will consider some other options that we are exploring as an alternative to claiming a refund.

"One such option, which is by no means the only one, is the ability to stream all the club’s remaining fixtures into your own home. Another might be some form of discount on other club products."

Following the EFL's announcement on the planned resumption of the 2019/20 Championship campaign, Swansea confirmed they have started the process that will see some fans receive requested refunds for individual match tickets and hospitality purchased for the remaining home and away games.

The club are also set to begin the process of refunding those yet to request a refund on individual tickets.

A statement read: "With the EFL confirming that the Championship season is due to resume on the weekend of June 20 behind-closed-doors, the club can confirm the first phase of ticket refunds.

"Some supporters have already received requested refunds for individual match tickets and hospitality purchased for the remaining home and away games.

"However, the club will now process refunds for those supporters who have yet to request a refund on individual tickets. This refund will be transferred automatically into your bank account over the next week to 10 days, so there is no need to contact the ticket office with any requests or return any unused match tickets.

"For supporters who purchased tickets using cash as their method of payment, the ticket office will be in contact to discuss your refund.

"Refunds and alternative options for supporters who have season tickets and seasonal hospitality for this current campaign (19-20) will follow as soon as possible.

"Those with mascot packages have all been contacted in respect to their arrangements. Please contact the hospitality team on  hospitality@swanseacity.com  if you have any further questions.

"Details for next season will be released once we have a clearer picture of how football will be played in 20-21.

"For any ticket queries, please email  ticketoffice@liberty-stadium.com. With staff working remotely, please allow additional time for a response."

Swansea are currently 11th in the standings and are three points adrift of the top six with nine matches left to play.
