Swansea City have told season ticket holders they are eligible for partial refunds but urged them to take up other options to help stem the club's cash-flow crisis.

While we are as yet uncertain as to when the Championship will return, it is likely that when it does games will be played behind closed doors.

Swans chairman Trevor Birch, therefore, has said that if that is indeed the case then supporters and hospitality members will be able to claim for partial rebates owing to the loss of the final four home games.

However, the club have urged fans to potentially explore other options, given that partially refunding season ticket holders and hospitality will incur costs of around £1million, which would be another big financial blow in this economic climate.

"I am sure you will understand that clubs are facing a very uncertain financial future as regards to what football will look like going forwards - and we are no different," Birch said in a statement.

"I would hope therefore, that our supporters will consider some other options that we are exploring as an alternative to claiming a refund. One such option, which is by no means the only one, is the ability to stream all the club’s remaining fixtures into your own home. Another might be some form of discount on other club products.

"The club estimates that the cost of partial refunds for 2019-20 season tickets and hospitality will amount to just under £1million, which will put even greater pressure on the club’s cash flow during these difficult times and for future operations.

"I am acutely aware that many families are struggling financially during the pandemic - and all of us at the club thank fans for their patience.

"We will therefore endeavour to finalise those options for supporters as soon as possible, but at the moment no refunds are available. Dates and options will follow as quickly as possible."

In more positive news, however, Birch was delighted to report that 70 percent of season ticket holders had already renewed their membership for next season, whenever that might start.

It is hoped that the current Championship season, which still has nine rounds of fixtures left to be played, will run to its conclusion, with the latest reports suggesting a resumption date of June 20.
