Swansea City have been handed an injury blow ahead of their Championship clash with Brentford after winger Daniel James was ruled out with a hamstring injury.

And he is also a doubt for the home fixture against Sheffield Wednesday the following week.

The 21-year-old Wales international was forced off with the problem in the closing stages of the Swans' defeat to Derby at the weekend and underwent a scan on Tuesday.

That revealed a slight hamstring strain which will keep him sidelined for the trip to Griffin Park, and he will be assessed over his availability for the game against the Owls.

A Swansea statement read: "Daniel James will miss Swansea City's trip to Brentford this weekend because of a hamstring injury.

James recently won his first Wales cap

"The in-form winger limped off in the closing minutes of last Saturday’s defeat at Derby County.

"A scan has revealed James suffered a slight hamstring strain at Pride Park which will sideline him for a couple of weeks."

With James sidelined, Potter has the likes of Barrie McKay and Joel Asoro as potential replacements but the Swans manager had indicated at the weekend that Jefferson Montero is not yet fit enough to feature from the start having admitted the Ecuador international was not able to play 45 minutes.

The Swans are also waiting on the fitness of midfielder Tom Carroll, who has been sidelined for over five weeks with niggling hip and groin problems.
