With no World Cup or European Championship taking place this summer, many football fans in Europe are already counting down the days to the beginning of the 2019/20 domestic campaign.

But there is plenty of international football for supporters to tuck into.

Following on from the recent Euro 2020 qualifiers, the 2019 Copa America is in full swing in Brazil. There is also the Under-21 European Championships in Italy and San Marino.

And the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations gets under way on Friday.

Former Swan Wilfried Bony - now at Qatari-outfit Al-Arabi - will be involved with Ivory Coast who face South Africa, Morocco and Namibia in the group phases in Egypt.

But, perhaps crucially, Jordan Ayew and Andre Ayew are both in the Ghana squad for the competition.

It's no secret that the Swans are determined to shift the Ayew brothers - along with Spaniard Borja - off the books this summer in a bid to reduce the wage bill.

And their efforts for the Black Stars against Benin, Cameroon and Guinea-Bissau in the group stages of the competition could go a long way to shaping Swansea's summer transfer plans.

Of course, Ghana - four-time winners of the competition - could well progress deep into the tournament, meaning the Swansea pair may well have more than just three games in the coming weeks with their country.

With that comes risk, and potential rewards, for the Swans.

The duo hardly pulled up trees during their season-long loan spells away from South Wales last term.

Andre Ayew netted five times in 34 appearances in all competitions for Turkish outfit Fenerbahce during the 2018/19 season while his younger brother scored just two goals for Crystal Palace in 25 appearances for Roy Hodgson's side.

It's meant that Swansea may well struggle to find suitors for the pair this summer, but if they catch the eye in Egypt, it could well make the life of Trevor Birch and Co significantly easier when it comes to finding them new clubs.

On the flip side, the top brass at the Liberty Stadium will be keeping everything crossed that neither of the two sustain any kind of injuries while on international duty with Ghana.

It remains to be seen exactly how the Africa Cup of Nations will impact the futures of the Ayew brothers.

But if Swansea do manage to shift the pair off the books in the near future - along with Borja - the club will be in a significantly stronger position if they have to fend off interest for other stars while funds will be freed to be used elsewhere.
