Rabbi Matondo has been tipped to follow in the footsteps of Gareth Bale and join Real Madrid.

According to Spanish outlet Diario, Matondo is already on the radar of Real boss Zinedine Zidane with the club seemingly keen to focus on signing young developing players.

It's not yet clear just how serious the interest is from the Spanish giants, but Matondo is already attracting serious interest from elsewhere.

WalesOnline has already been told that Manchester United have identified the winger as a potential alternative to number one target Jadon Sancho, with reports suggesting that the former Cardiff City prospect has a release clause of around £53m.

Matondo left the Welsh capital for Manchester City for a minimal fee in 2016, before making a £10m move to the Bundesliga with Schalke three years later.

It's been suggested that there could be a buyback clause in place should City wish to bring him back to the Etihad, although the player himself has already insisted that his focus remains on his current employers.

Responding to the recent transfer speculation, he told the MEN : "I am concentrating on Schalke.

"I still have to achieve my goals for Schalke. I am just concentrating on that and we just see how things go, but for now I am just focused on Schalke.

"Hopefully I can get into the team and help them climb up the table."
