Swansea City have been given a transfer boost with news that reported target Lawrence Shankland has rejected a big-money move to the continent.

The prolific forward, who has scored 31 goals in 33 appearances for Ayr so far this season, has been linked with a move south of the border for the past six months.

He was on Swansea's radar during January, with sources outside Wales saying the Liberty Stadium outfit were in the driving seat for his signature.

But the Scottish second tier side stood firm, with their owner maintaining that Shankland would not be sold before the end of the campaign as they battled for promotion to the top flight.

The summer is another matter, however, and the 23-year-old is still hot property.

Hull, Celtic, Rangers and Sunderland have all shown interest, and according to the Daily Record , Shankland has rejected the chance to move to Belgian second-tier side Saint Gilloise.

The transfer would have trebled Shankland's current wages, but the Record state he has more lucrative options on the table.

Swansea are certainly in need of a striker come next season; Wilfried Bony, currently on loan in Qatar, is out of contract in the summer and will leave the club when it expires. Oli McBurnie has done a stellar job leading the line for boss Graham Potter but has struggled under the burden at times and has missed chunks of the campaign with illness.

Courtney Baker-Richardson has potential but needs games to further progress his career.
