Swansea City and Celtic target Lawrence Shankland says he wants to stay at Ayr until the end of the season - but did leave the door open for a move this January.

Yesterday it was reported that the Scottish club's owner Lachlan Cameron would be prepared to lose the frontman for free at the end of the season in order to mount a decent promotion challenge, with Ayr going great guns north of the border.

And Shankland himself has revealed he is in no hurry to leave The Honest Men. Swansea have been linked with a £400,000 move for the striker next month, who is also attracting the interest of Sunderland and a host of others.

He did, however, imply that the club could receive an offer that would be too good to turn down.

Shankland told the Ayrshire Post: "I won't be knocking anyone's door asking for a move.

"I'm more than happy here and will be doing everything I can to see out the season with Ayr.

"There's a lot of talk about offers being made but there has never been anything official.

"If the club get offered something they can't turn down, that is their call."

Ayr's Lawrence Shankland is a target for Swansea City and Celtic

The 23-year-old has been prolific for the second tier club this season, scoring 26 goals in all competitions already this campaign. Our colleagues at the Daily Record previously reported that Ayr would find it difficult to turn down the fee reported for a player in the last six months of his contract.

But it seems Shankland wants to help his team-mates to the Scottish top flight before moving on to the next stage of his career.

He said: "I think if we won the league there would be a squad full of legends, not just me.

"We're not top of the league by accident and I'm loving my football here, which is a key part of why I want to stay.

"When you enjoy coming into your work, it's a great feeling.

"I'll certainly be doing everything I can to stay here.

"The club have made it very clear they want to keep me and that's great.

"Until something changes on that front, there's nothing to discuss as far as I'm concerned."
