The rumour mill is starting to crank up and names are beginning to be linked with Swansea City ahead of the January transfer window.

The latest player touted as a possible target for Graham Potter is Sunderland defender Tom Flanagan.

HITC claim Swansea have watched the 26-year-old a number of times so far this season, who plays in central defence.

Signed from Burton Albion on a free transfer, he has impressed at the Stadium of Light since arriving this summer and a number of clubs are keeping an eye on his development.

He signed a two-year deal with the Black Cats.

Swansea lost four central defenders last summer, with Alfie Mawson, Federico Fernandez, Kyle Bartley and Jordi Amat all moving on to pastures new.

Sunderland's Tom Flanagan

The emergence of Joe Rodon has been a surprise bonus for Swansea, who also brought in Cameron Carter-Vickers on loan from Tottenham.

Despite the American international's arrival Swansea are still short at centre-back and another addition in that department would boost Potter's options.

Meanwhile, Swansea's interest in Ayr United striker Lawrence Shankland has taken a fresh turn.

It was reported that any move for the forward would see him stay north of the border until the end of the season. However, according to our colleagues at the Daily Record, there is no chance of that happening if Swansea's bid - rumoured to be in the region of £400,000 - is accepted.

The outlet also understands that Shankland would be open to a move south - with up to 20 teams tracking him.

The 23-year-old has scored 26 goals so far this season.
